Question by Renna: Who do I need to see for possible depression- Psychiatrist or Doctor?
I think I might be suffering from depression, but I’m still a bit confused on who I need to see for treatment (at least initially)-

A general doctor or a psychiatrist?

I have no family doctor or doctor that I go to regularly for advice on this.

You should start out with a regular doctor because they can tell if your symptoms are mental or physical. If your only problem is depression most general practitioners are comfortable passing out medications. If not, they can refer you to a good psychiatrist.

Question by Armored Polar Bear: How do therapists bill insurance companies for couples counseling?
My boyfriend and I have been together for 8 years. We are interested in going to couples counseling in order to work on any issues we have before moving forward. We both have health insurance but with two separate insurance companies. Do therapists typically bill both insurances (meaning we need to find someone that accepts both)? Is the therapy billed differently because its more than one person being serviced, meaning that couples therapy has to be specifically covered by our insurance companies? Any information would be great, thanks!
