Question by Maria: Why would a child with a “specific learning disability” need counseling?
The high school workers said group counseling (group size: 3 students) would help the student pass algebra. How would counseling help the student pass algebra.

Often students with learning disabilities feel emotionally drained by trying to achieve their goals. Now I would imagine this student has an IEP/504 plan.

-allowing the student to take frequent brakes to clear their mind and relax a little will help them.
-give them time to finish their assignments (with a deadline)
-perhaps do some computer games, or hands on learning will be beneficial.
-instead of them trying to figure out a math problem on paper, have them use a chalk board or white board. This is a bit fun especially if the student has attention issues.
