Counseling Psychology or Clinical Psychology?
Question by Wicked-Kitten-Love: Counseling Psychology or Clinical Psychology?
I’ve looked this up many times, and asked people. The difference between a counseling psychologist, and a clinical psychologist. Tired of reading.
So I’ll tell you what I want to do and etc, and if you know the difference between a clinical psychologist and a counseling psychologist you can tell me which would fit me more. (Btw, this is for me studying in school).
I want to help those who have been mentally, sexually, physically, and/or emotionally abused. Ages 12-25. I wouldn’t mind focusing on the LGBT group but I’m not going to ONLY work with lgbt (that’s mean). I would like to help depression, anger, ptsd, etc but I do not want to go into other types of more severe illnesses (e.g. schizophrenia)
If you do not know the difference between counseling psychology, or clinical psychology…. do not answer this question. If you think clinical psychology is the same thing as a psychiatrist.. do not answer.
Just to clarify, the reason why I say do not answer if you think….blah blah is because you wouldn’t be able to answer correctly.
Psychiatry is not the same thing as clinical psychology, and there is a difference between counseling and clinical psychology. If you think I’m being rude, oh well. I want an answer from someone who understands this.

Honestly, I believe your last paragraph makes people exit the page. It’s fairly rude.
You would be wanting to consider a profession in counseling psychology, because you are using the same tools as a clinical psychologist, but they counsel with those who have gone through life-threatening events, like abuse.
I think clinical is more like cognition and physical development, and more or less understand why we feel the way we feel and why we do things. You can help those who abuse women or rape women.
With counseling Psychology, you’re more helping those who have been subject to abuse.
Next time, appreciate and accept all answers – be more willing to learn.
