Would “Obamacare” Cover This?
Question by EDWIN: Would “Obamacare” cover this?
On May 27, 1989 my daughter Emily was delivered by Cesarean Section due to her mother’s poor health. Emily was three (3) months premature, with a birth weight of 1 pound, 8 ounces. Fortunately, we were in Louisville, KY and Kosair Children’s Hospital was close by. Her attending physician in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit told us she had a 40% chance to live 24 hours and, if she lived 24 hours she’d have a 50% chance of living 48 hours.
She spent three (3) months in the hospital and was discharged on Aug. 27, 1989. The total cost for her care was approximately $ 1,000,000.00 – all paid by our insurance.
Does anyone really believe that she would be alive today if something like “Obamacare” had been in effect then? I don’t.
Emily celebrated her 20th. birthday this year as a college freshman.
**** EDIT ****
1) Siobhan, please read my Question on Statistics.
2) I must respectfully disagree with the those who believe that a socialized health plan would spend $ 1 million on care for a 3 month preemie.
