Question by Pigtails: What is group therapy like? I would appreciate anyone sharing their experiences with me.?
My therapist wants me to go to group therapy to help me cope with my grief over the death of my brother. I don’t want to go. What’s it like? Does everyone just sit around and cry and whine about themselves? I don’t want to talk about it with a bunch of strangers. Did it help you? Thanks

Strange to talk about. So…

I had this friend…

who went to group therapy in high school. Nasty stuff. Hated it. The experiences in the group were NOTHING like what my friend was dealing with. And the stuff they moaned about was disgusting! And this friend left the group after only two sessions. NEVER went back.

Hope that helps some. It may not end up being your experience, though.

Private is 100% better, but… You have to want change and you have to trust your counselor. It’s hard to find the right one, but it is worth looking.
