How to Talk to Therapist, and Possible Schizo-Type Disorder?
Question by Glooper: How to talk to therapist, and possible schizo-type disorder?
So, I’m a 23 year old man, hopefully getting into therapy soon. Been depressed (or something) for roughly ten years, but only in the past year have I really began showing schizo-type symptoms (especially recently, it’s been getting kind of out of hand).
Anyway, question(s) is:
First meeting with my therapist, am I just straight up and bring up my hallucinations/delusions, or should I open up with just “depression” and ease into the schizo symptoms later?
Also, I have relatively violent thoughts during episodes, but only towards myself. I don’t really have the money afford to be hospitalized or anything, but I also don’t want to lie about being non-violent. Should I just keep the violent stuff under my hat for a bit until I can afford hospitalization (if necessary), or would it be best to just be up front about it from the beginning? I feel confident I can keep these thoughts under control (but who knows I guess?).
Hoping to hear some people’s experiences with this stuff, and with their first times in therapy. Thanks!

You want to tell them everything because they have heard it all many times before. They hear it 20 times a day – year in and year out so don’t be shy about it. You may want to downplay the violent thoughts thingie just a bit. Good luck. I hope you feel better.
