I was just wondering about this. These might be a little extreme for examples but…
making a compulsive eater eat a lot of food until they become sick and vomit
or making an alcoholic drink themselves sick and force them to have a hangover

have these methods of “therapy” of associating negative things to modify your behavior actually worked?

Yes, those are extreme examples. The only kind of aversion therapy I would reccomend is wearing a rubber band on your wrist and snapping it when you have negative thoughts. Negative thoughts are usually what bring about negative behavior.
