Mental Health “blacklisting”.. Is It Real?

Question by emmie_keeferton: Mental Health “blacklisting”.. Is it real?
I recommended counseling to a friend and he said “No way! I’m not getting that on my permanent record.”
He thinks that it might become an issue when he graduates and tries to get a job (he plans to be a teacher).
All I recommended was some counseling and possibly an anti-depressant prescription (he admits to probably being depressed).

Is this an urban myth or is there some truth to it?
I know the insurance companies (whom I don’t trust as far as I can throw ’em) share information, and insurance companies consider anyone on allergy meds or anti-depressants high-risk (or high cost, I forget which). Probably high-cost because these scripts tend to be continuous on a long term basis. I’ve even read that insurance companies have refused coverage for anyone who takes anti’s or allergy meds.
How evil!

Refuse to live in fear.
