Third step used at alcohol treatment center is generally maintenance of this abstinence. This step is usually started after 90 days of the second stage. During this period the addict will undergo group therapies and arrive at a better understanding of the whole problem. He will undergo meditation or some other form of yoga or spiritual healing aimed at fortifying his soul and cleansing him of guilt feelings and feelings of shame. He learns to live life and sees it in a new light. He looks forward to the challenge.

Final step of recovery process is advanced recovery. In this stage he has gained valuable life skills training, education in chemical dependency and skills on handling relapses. He is transformed into a stronger and more resolute individual and is ready to face the harsh realities of life outside the rehab.
